Job Description
Job Summary:
The Chemist will be part of a team responsible for in-depth research, discovery and problem-solving related to chemical and biological detection for US Government and Commercial markets. Our products are based on "outside-the-lab" platforms and encompass detection and identification instruments for chemical and biological weapons, explosives, narcotics, toxic industrial chemicals, and other hazardous materials. Researchers at this level are expected to understand the applicable technology platforms, work independently on multiple projects, and be able to shift priorities as needed.
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:
* Assist in the development, troubleshooting, and testing of proof-of-concept/prototype equipment.
* Develop methods for new analytical applications for the site's current products & projects.
* Plan, design, carry out experiments, analyze data, and report results to manager and team for 2 or more projects on a weekly basis (for the site, in the laboratory, in the field); must be able to plan experiments from conception to completion.
* Compile data in a way it can be shared across the organization on a weekly basis.
* Compile reports and participate in customer reviews on site and in the field, be able to articulate to customers report findings and associated data.
* Maintain essential inventory and ensure common areas of the lab are well-kept and orderly.
* Participate in advanced training programs to increase product and technology knowledge, and share learnings with team and more junior staff.
* Provide additional support activities including compiling reports and assumption of indirect activities (safety, IT, IP, etc.) as needed.
Job Qualifications:
* Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.
* B.S. degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, physics or related engineering disciplines.
* Minimum of 5 years of applicable experience in analytical chemistry related fields or products.
* Experience with wet chemistry and good laboratory practices preferred.
* Ability to perform basic test design (define the question being asked and develop single-variable experiments to answer).
* Act independently to drive experimentation, testing and solutions to project goals.
* Conduct basic instrumentation testing on laboratory analysis equipment.
* Prior experience with Mass Spectrometers (FLIR or competitor) a plus.
* Ability to troubleshoot and resolve science and project issues.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
* High energy, proactive orientation and self-motivated.
* Ability to effectively communicate and interact with team members and customers to ensure project goals and timelines are met.
* Strong Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) skills.
* Prior military experience a plus.
* DOD Security Clearance a plus.
