As the company's second line of defense, Corporate Risk - or Independent Risk Management - provides independent oversight of risk-taking activities. Independent Risk Management establishes and maintains Wells Fargo's risk management program and provides oversight, including challenges to and independent assessment of, the frontline's execution of its risk management responsibilities. We manage risk according to the Risk Management Framework and ensure all employees understand their individual accountability for managing risk. Corporate Risk roles depend on a variety of skills, including: Data analysis and synthesis, root cause analysis, change management, process management & execution, risk governance, risk strategy, risk identification & assessment, risk prevention, controls & mitigation, risk monitoring, reporting & escalation, risk systems & technology.
This role will develop specific subject matter expertise for the applicable Wealth and Investment Management (WIM) groups to which it is aligned, is considered a thought leader and will assist the business oversight leader with all matters pertaining to Operational Risk coverage and oversight. In this capacity, this role reviews and challenges significant Front Line operational risk program execution, including, but not limited to, business continuity, payments, external fraud, information risk management, safety and physical security, transaction processing and execution, third-party risk management and various risk assessment policies and programs. The risk professional in this role will also develop detailed understanding of business strategy, the customer base, products and services and other relevant industry issues, frameworks and emerging risks. Assist leadership with strategy development, key driver in execution of the work function, will also serve as a key contact for business partners and staff.
The Operational Risk (OR) Officer will be an integral member of the Wealth and Investment Management (WIM) Business Aligned Oversight (BAO) team and will assume primary responsibilities around providing support in the continued development and implementation of operational risk management initiatives aligned to the Risk Management Framework. Responsibilities include:
Working collaboratively with Enterprise Risk Management, WIM BAO officers, and Business Unit/Front Line (FL) risk and control leaders to ensure the adoption of a consistent framework for the identification, assessment, and mitigation of key risk exposures.
- Partnering with key stakeholders across the organization to incorporate OR policies and standards, along with best practices, into FL activities in support of risk and control assessment, measurement, and monitoring programs.
- Assuming responsibility for the management and oversight of the key operational risk programs and processes (i.e. execution routines) supporting implementation and roll out of core operational risk management program activities, along with the risk management tool suite which supports them.
- Providing support to the WIM Oversight Lead and Directors
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 7+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in risk management

- Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communications skills with an ability to interact effectively with stakeholders across the organization, which includes virtual, matrixed leadership experience
- Proven leadership skills to drive alignment across stakeholder groups to develop and deliver repeatable end to end risk management solutions
- Strong understanding of corporate/business policies, and programs
- Proven ability to scope, manage and execute complex risk management initiatives with high quality and timely delivery
- Flexibility and business savvy to navigate a complex, highly-matrixed organization
- Experience providing reporting and updates to senior-level management
- Requires a developed sense for strong relationship management, and can exert influence
- Be articulate and possess a demonstrated capability to organize, scope and execute complex initiatives across a complex, heavily matrixed corporate environment
