HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTIONPosition: Human Resources Manager
Reports to: Director of Human Resources
Job Purpose: The human resources manager is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with senior management. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, and employment law compliance.
Primary Job Functions
- Consults with line management, providing HR guidance when appropriate.
- Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs and policies.
- Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.
- Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the legal department as needed/required.
- Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
- Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
- Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.
- Performs recruitment activities, interviews, and evaluates candidates for select positions, maintains records related to same. Performs outreach to community sources as needed. Trains managers on hiring practices.
Secondary Job Functions
- Writes, revises, edits, proofreads and coordinates with HR Director all company policies and procedures and related documents as needed. Coordinates with the Communications Director the uses of the electronic bulletin boards and other vehicles to communicate information.
- Conducts exit interviews, either in person, by mail, or phone call.
- Manages discipline problems and coordinates with manager's effective discipline processes.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Administers various human resources plans and procedures for all company personnel; assists in development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures;
- Employee reviews; schedule, alert manager responsible for the review and track the completion of
- Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems.
- Administers compensation program; monitors performance evaluation program and revises as necessary.
- Performs benefits administration to include claim resolution, change reporting, and communicating benefit information to employees.
- Conducts recruitment effort for all exempt and nonexempt personnel, students and temporary employees; conducts new-employee orientations; build career path program, writes and places advertisements.
- Handles employee relations counseling and outplacement counseling.
- Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars. Maintains company organizational charts and employee directory.
- Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from database.
- Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.
Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions.
Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position regularly requires long hours and occasional weekend work as job duties demand.
Desired Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Management, or related field
- Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, safety, and federal and state employment laws.
- Minimum five years' experience as HR generalist
- SHRM or HRCI certification a plus
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
