Your Role:

EMD Serono in Billerica, MA is seeking a Flow Cytometry Sr. Associate Scientist to work in our Core Lab. In this role you will be responsible for ensuring good daily operation of the core laboratory and all associated equipment. The majority of time will be spent in the laboratory working with technical equipment and producing data for experiments designed and requested by the Translational Innovation Platforms (TIPs - therapeutic areas) and by Discovery and Development Technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, calibrate, and operate flow cytometry analytical equipment and instruments
  • Qualify robust flow cytometry methods; transfer to contract organizations when needed
  • Assist with development of standard operating procedures, analytical test methods and analytical sampling plans
  • Write, review, and edit accurate technical documents
  • Operate in a matrixed environment and work with cross-functional teams
  • Develop process improvements and efficiencies
  • Maintain a current understanding of recent developments in technology and methods and the application of them to SRDI experiments
  • Contribute to scientific journal publications and internal SOP's
  • Participate in external publications and professional associations


Who you are:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, or other related Scientific discipline with 1+ years' experience in the operation and maintenance of equipment such as the florescent activated cell sorting (FACS) instruments and flow cytometry equipment OR
  • Master's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, or other related Scientific discipline


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with good laboratory documentation, understanding of critical timelines and delivery of timely results
  • Experience with troubleshooting both instrumentation and assays
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
  • Ability to collaborate
  • Assertiveness and independence, ability to self-motivate and work independently
  • Detail-oriented, ability to aggregate data and results understanding how raw data support conclusions
  • Excellent record management habits and fundamental understanding of documenting intellectual property
  • Mechanical aptitude with technical and problem-solving skills
  • Capacity to adapt with motivation to learn new concepts and techniques
