AbbVie Immunology is expanding its early discovery team in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The early discovery team in Cambridge is focused on identifying new targets for the treatment of autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases through computational analysis of human disease tissue derived datasets, and through validating targets using in vitro and in vivo experimental approaches to make a remarkable impact on patient lives. We are seeking an enthusiastic, skilled, and dedicated individual to join a team that validates targets using genetic tools. This position requires passion, attention to detail, prior hands-on experience, and teamwork.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs molecular and cellular biology laboratory procedures following protocols, including mammalian cell culture, bacterial culture, nucleic acid and protein extraction, isolation, and purification, DNA sequencing, primer design, PCR, qRT-PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blot, lentivirus generation, transfection, transduction, electroporation, and single cell cloning.
  • Monitors and operates specialized equipment such as fluorescence activated cell sorters, thermocyclers, real-time PCR instruments, cell counters, and microplate readers.
  • Implement in vitro and support in vivo CRISPR tools and platforms, including CRISPRx, CRISPRa, CRISPRi.
  • Support target biology validation using genetic tools, including gene overexpression via ORF; CRISPR-based technologies; RNAi; mutagenesis; validation of genetic manipulations.
  • Develop and implement assays that monitor cellular processes.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and data.
  • Analyze data and present work in internal meetings.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Position will be hired based on level of experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's in molecular biology, immunology or other biological sciences with 5-7+ (BS) or 2-5+ (MS) years of experience
  • Solid understanding of genetic tools such as CRISPR and RNAi-based technologies
  • Skillful in standard molecular and cellular biology techniques, such as mammalian cell and bacterial culture, PCR, and gel electrophoresis; experience in genomic DNA isolation and validation of genomic edits, nucleofection using the Lonza 96 shuttle system, qPCR, and lentivirus production is a plus
  • Hands-on experience with immunoassays including FACS, ELISA, WB is preferred
  • Experience with in vivo animal models, especially immunological models, is a plus
  • Bioinformatics experience is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with peers and their teams
