Position Description Job SummaryThe selected candidate will be joining the Glass Refractories R&D group based in SGR North America (MA, USA) to support the continued technical leadership of SEFPRO () in refractories for the glass industry.The Senior Technical Specialist safely provides complex, advanced problem solving, routine/non-routine maintenance, set-up, operation and troubleshooting of experimental equipment and instruments, and accurate documentation. Also provides guidance, scheduling and training to new employees, even functioning in lieu of supervision to keep lab/manufacturing running. Responsibilities include reviewing experimental plans for completeness and executing plans for multiple, simultaneous tests. Responsibilities include the safe operation of equipment, and maintaining a high standard in methodology using SOPs and standardized methods such as ASTM and ISO. Often is an expert in multiple techniques.The successful candidate will be comfortable working carefully with advanced equipment, have good hands-on skills, be detail oriented with good computer skills, and have the ability to work comfortably in a diverse and fast moving environment. Proven troubleshooting skills are also desired.MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: Supports senior engineers and scientists in R&D team with their projects. Manages and documents projects and tasks effectively with supervision. Take leading role in aspects of lab management: safety, equipment maintenance, 5S, lab audit preparation and action follow-up, lab postings, regular equipment checks etc., training new users to the lab, managing chemical inventory Demonstrates open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility. Conducts hands-on experimental work. Seeks out others to enhance and streamline development and decision making. Required Qualifications High School diploma or GED (demonstrated equivalent) with 0-5 years of experience in research lab or laboratory within a manufacturing facility or Associates degree in an engineering, technical, or science related field (or demonstrated equivalent) Oral and written communication skills Familiarity with reporting software such as Microsoft word and excel Demonstrated hands-on experimental work history Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety operations Ability to work with a diverse project team in an open and collaborative mode Strong organizational skills and attention to detailCompany SummarySaint-Gobain designs, manufactures and distributes materials and solutions which are key ingredients in the wellbeing of each of us and the future of all.
