Job description

Position Summary
The position is a hands-on Chemical Engineer/Chemist position with an emphasis on rubber, compounding, processing formulation of fillers into rubber, troubleshooting raw materials, interacting with suppliers, etc., all related to the production and mixing of rubber. Conducts mechanical and chemical tests on chemicals, elastomers including liquid silicones and molded rubber products.
Responsibilities

  • Essential Functions: - Performs rheological, mechanical and chemical tests on rubber materials per standard test methods such as ASTM using viscometers, rheometers, tensile testers, hardness testers, specific gravity testers, aging ovens, ICP-OES, FTIR, TGA, etc. - Designs and develops rubber compound formulations for various applications. - Compounds experimental materials using lab scale internal mixers, laboratory mills, dough mixers., etc. - Performs operational checks and maintains lab equipment. - Follows safety procedures and good laboratory practices. - Plans and conducts engineering experiments to test, prove, modify theoretical propositions on basis or research findings and experiences of others researching in related technological areas. - Evaluates findings to develop new concepts, products, equipment, or processes, or to develop applications of findings to new uses. - Confers with scientific, engineering, and technical personnel to resolve material or product related problems such as product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data and data interpretation. - Analyzes and interprets test data and prepares technical reports for use by engineering or management personnel. - Troubleshoots raw materials, compounds, and provides plant technical support. - Interfaces with customers and material suppliers. - Gains new knowledge in polymer chemistry / elastomer engineering by taking part in training programs or elastomer engineering courses offered by Parker, external institutes or organizations.

  • Bachelor's degree in Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering or similar discipline is required to be considered. - 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience is preferred. - Ability to provide hands-on technical leadership with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. - Ability to work as a team member in a production environment. - Ability to be self-managing and task focused. - Highly motivated and results oriented.- Ability to communicate effectively with peers, management, suppliers and customers.
