Job Summary
Under the supervision of a Child Life Specialist or Recreational Therapist, assists in provision of community recreation programs for children with disabilities. These programs may include but are not limited to adaptive aquatics, martial arts, camps, and Friday Night Fever.
Essential Job Functions
- Demonstrates knowledge of childhood development, physical & developmental disabilities, and Autism Spectrum Disorders, and is able to apply it in daily practice.
- Cleans departmental equipment and organizes supplies as designated in the competency expectations, following established timelines, taking initiative to organize and clean other areas when needed.
- Monitors and maintains inventory of general supplies and equipment as designated in competency expectations, ordering supplies in an accurate timely manner.
- Assists department staff in planning and implementation of programs & special events.
- Communicates effectively with participants, families, volunteers, and staff.
- Orients and supervises assigned volunteers and community groups according to hospital policy.
- Ability to assess and evaluate overall participant level of functioning to determine appropriate activities and adaptations.
- Performs other duties as assigned based on need of department.
- Assists with coordination of programs including phone calls, data entry, and other office tasks.
Formal Education and Job-Related Experience *Previous work experience with children with special needs or previous experience with children.
Certification *AHA BLS Provider Certification required
License *n-a
Education and Experience - Additional Comments *Ability to plan activities and adapt to the environment to suit a variety of disabling conditions. Tact, enthusiasm, initiative and judgment in performance of duties.

Physical Demands *Physical stamina for lifting and therapeutic handling of patients.
