Job description

At Matrix Hotels, we are seeking a seasoned individual to lead Accounting and Risk Management for its portfolio of hotels as our Corporate Hotel Controller. The successful candidate is responsible for ensuring that books, records, and reporting of all legal entities are accurate, current, and in compliance.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The Corporate Hotel Controller performs and/or supervises the month-end financial closings for assigned entities.
  • Prepares financial statements and various reports to complete internal accounting processes.
  • Compiles month end questions for General Managers to ensure all variances are researched and balanced.
  • Prepares/audits/approves all balance sheet reconciliations for assigned entities. Clears any reconciling items before the following month-end.
  • The Corporate Hotel Controller ensures the timely and accurate posting, balancing, and reconciliation of the general ledger for each entity.
  • Researches and analyzes fluctuations between current financial results compared to prior year, prior month, forecasted and budgeted amounts.
  • Assists with preparation of the annual budget plans/forecasts, as directed by the leadership.
  • Assists with capital expenditure budgeting and coding, document preparation, and other accounting-related activities.
  • Monitors vendor compliance and controls.
  • Prepare and file sale, use, and occupancy tax returns.
  • Responsible for payroll journal entries to the general ledger, monthly accounting accruals and prepaid expenses. The Corporate Hotel Controller also ensures payroll tax filings are timely and accurately prepared by third party provider, including annual W-2s.
  • Updates and maintains a filing system that allows company to have secure backup for legal entity formation documents, liquor & other licensing, compliance documentation, financial reports, and tax filings.
  • Updates Capital Expenditure Reports. Submits the report to outside auditors to complete tax statements and/or depreciation schedules.
  • Ensures all statutory tax reporting required to be filed monthly is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Completes year-end closings per required timing guidelines.
  • Ensures all year-end statutory tax-filing requirements are met as required.
  • The Corporate Hotel Controller manages the accounting transition and financial reporting for new acquisitions/development projects. Assists with due diligence for acquisitions, dispositions, or new development projects.
  • Manages any statutory taxing authority audits and critique the results. Challenges inaccuracies presented on any audit findings.
  • Assists in developing and implementing internally issued policies/procedures affecting improvement of the operations and financial results.
  • Oversees the administration of corporate insurance program, including maintaining risk management records, management of insurance policies, insurance coverage renewals, issuance of certificates of insurance and premium payments.
  • Assists with possible grievance of property tax assessment values.
  • Assists with the onboarding, training, and termination of staff, as necessary.
  • Conducts property visits and conducts internal audits as required.
  • Performs any/all special projects as assigned by the Principal and/or Vice President of Operations.



  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience specializing in hospitality accounting.
  • Experience with M3 accounting software.
  • Must have valid Driver's License.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Excel/Word.
