Job description
**Kelly is actively recruiting for a Direct Hire - Fermentation Manager in the Greater Toledo Area of OH.**
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: other duties may be assigned as needed
+ Ensure that the safety of our team members and regulatory compliance are always our highest priorities
+ Optimize the facility's organizational structure and processes with the objective to exceed both internal and external customer expectations
+ Develop and document practices/procedures for dissemination of key information and KPI's to senior management
+ Ensure standard operating procedures and batch records reflects the needs of all regulatory agencies.
+ Lead new innovation for R&D fermentation on bacterial strains and products
+ Management of media optimization studies and isolation of new strains
+ Evaluate and make recommendations on strain development and biological (mostly bacillus based) products
+ Identifies manufacturing opportunities, bottlenecks etc. Provides recommendations and solutions including financial analysis and basic modeling for all manufacturing and fermentation processes
+ Be proactive in building and maintaining strong relationships within Client business partners, with key and prospective customers supplied from the facility
+ Ensure inventory levels are accurate and maintained.
+ Assist Fermentation Manager with day to day operations of fermentation
+ Ensure the site is compliant with all regulatory, GMP and quality requirements
+ Works with production team to troubleshoot process and equipment and ensures proper communication with internal and external stakeholders
+ Must be able to provide technical support and be a good technical presenter for internal and external customers
+ Manage the plant budget and forecasting
+ Manage multiple teams in a 24x7 operation
+ Ensures succession plan is in place for key roles
+ Working with maintenance on a preventative maintenance plan
+ Assisting in all parts of the microbiology lab when required
+ On-call for any fermentation questions that may arise
+ Create weekly schedules for direct reports
+ Work with People Team to build the staff into a highly effective team that demonstrates trust, shared priorities, accountability, effective conflict resolution, and a commitment to results
+ Actively involved in different scientific organizations (SIM, ASM, CSPA, etc.)
+ Ability to maintain a clean facility at all times
+ Ability to train personnel
Requirements
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Must have at a minimum a bachelor's degree in Engineering or scientific discipline. MS or PhD preferred. Proven track record into leading operations in cGMP biotech manufacturing. Minimum of 10+ years' experience in biotechnology/fermentation fields.
REQUIRED SKILLS
+ Proven experience manufacturing leader
+ Knowledge and experience in food safety and interaction with key agencies such as FDA and MAPA is a plus
+ Knowledge and experience in plant administration including people operation, budgeting, capital planning/execution, production cost and variance accounting, strategic and production planning
+ Strong technical expertise in the operation of a fermentation production facility
+ Proven experience in significant capital investment projects
+ Experience in growing bacteria or yeast in lab and full-scale operations. Prior experience in growing bacillus is a plus.
+ Must have experience in a CMO environment.
+ Minimum of 5+ years of management experience required
+ Must be proficient in MS office.
+ Strong communication skills.
+ Ability to work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.
+ An understanding of six sigma and lean manufacturing principles.
+ Ability to Identify complex problems, review data to determine root cause, evaluate options and implement solutions
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift 50lbs and stand for long periods at a time.
