How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

The Lead Center Engineer, SIO will be an integral part of the team responsible for developing, monitoring, and analyzing plant operational data using predictive analytics tools. This role is part of the LEAD Center (Leading Enterprise Analytics and Diagnostics), which is a key focal point of the Smart Innovative Operations (SIO) initiative in Airgas. The initiative focuses on using data to drive improvements in plant reliability and efficiency.


In particular, you will:

  • Use predictive analytical tools such as Aveva Prism and Tibco Spotfire to build models for specified plant equipment and processes. Use tools to detect technical plant operational issues and opportunities for continuous efficiency improvement.
  • Thoroughly investigate issues identified by the modeling tools to determine if they are model related issues or real operational issues.
  • Collaborate with the experts in national maintenance, efficiency, engineering and plant operations to drive operational issues to resolution.
  • Utilize the case management process to document and track efficiency opportunities or reliability risks.
  • Chair recurring meetings with subject matter experts (SMEs) and facility personnel to ensure that issues identified by the modeling tools are driven to resolution. Meetings are held to review and discuss LEAD Center findings and the action(s) to be taken to address those findings.
  • Assess the effectiveness of plant data analytics models and suggest areas for improvements. Manage and implement these requirements.
  • Understand the theory and practicality of efficiency calculations for whole plant operations, and constraints of the entire supply chain. Use this knowledge to identify opportunities for improvement in the plant operations.
  • Monitor and communicate plant efficiencies using both real-time and historical data streams.
  • Conduct daily analysis of plant efficiency KPIs, and regularly use predictive analytical tools to actively find opportunities to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Become an expert/power user in OSISoft PI. Create new plant screens and calculations to monitor plant operation, efficiencies, and KPI's.
  • Lead one of the various LEAD Center programs by becoming the local expert on that program. Potential programs include Aveva Prism, Tibco Spotfire, PI or Power BI.

Are you a MATCH?

  • BS in Engineering discipline.
  • Industrial gas experience is preferred, 3 to 5 years of industrial experience is required.
  • 2+ years' experience in a plant operations environment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of industrial gases technology (ASU, LOS, CO2, SMR) is preferred.
  • Experience using Aveva Prism, Tibco Spotfire or OsiSoft PI is preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and keep the process moving forward rapidly by performing tasks in parallel.
  • Candidates either enrolled in or graduated from LEAP are preferred.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Proficient in Google Suite and MS Excel and ability to learn software/tools.
  • Proficiency in problem solving, troubleshooting, managing multiple priorities, taking initiative, adapting approach.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work with and communicate both orally and in writing with all levels of company personnel.
  • Strong data analytical skills.
  • Excellent planning, organizational skills.
  • Comfortable in both corporate and field environments.
  • Ability to work self-directed, make sound decisions.
  • Knowledge of implementing/participating in continuous improvement process
