Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Environmental Scientist, we'll count on you to

• Work on a wide variety of environmental compliance and natural resources projects as they relate to water resources, transportation and development projects

• Collect project-related data, which may include research, conducting surveys for listed species, interviews with government agencies and clients, map reviews, field investigations for wetlands, land use, etc

• Work independently on small to medium-size projects, or assist more-senior scientists on larger projects involving 404 permits, NEPA documentation, biological assessments and other environmental compliance efforts.

• Assist senior and mid-level scientists or champion efforts involving the field collection of natural resource data

• Assimilate and manage data

• Make independent decisions on problems and methods to perform assignments relating to environmental impact assessment/compliance and project management, increasing in complexity over time

• Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Forestry, Natural Science or related field

• Demonstrates curiosity for learning

• Demonstrates excitement towards inquiry of state and federal regulation and guidance and procedure documents to better understand why

• Critical thinking and problem solving

• Has a second nature to apply lessons learned from previous projects/tasks in desire for continuous improvement

• Takes pride in quality of work

• Strives to improve processes

• Self-driven communicator in team-oriented situations

• Observant / detail oriented

• Demonstrated technical writing ability

• Self-motivated and driven to excel beyond job description

• Basic MS Office experience

• ESRI software experience - cartography skills and experience applying geospatial tools to process/analyze data to solve problems / improve processes

• Google Earth experience

• Data management and file organization skills

• General awareness of publicly available natural resource dataset and experience with interacting and interpreting it

• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

• Familliarity with wetland delineation (1987 USACE Manual & Midwest and Great Plains Regional Supplements)

• Environmental impact analysis experience

• Experience working for or with regulatory agencies

• Other field biology experience such as Threatened and Endangered Species / habitat surveys, raptor surveys, plant identification of common northern plains species.

• More advance MS Office experience

• Willingness to travel up to one week at a time

• 3+ years of experience
