Job Summary:
The SBA Underwriting Assistant is a team position working closely with agents, other Underwriting Assistant's, and directly with all Underwriters. The primary responsibility of the Underwriting Assistant is to set up new SBA accounts, process bonds, prepare various surety documents and maintain files in a current status at all times. The position requires great attention to detail, a solid working knowledge of the SBA program and Surety's participation in it. This individual will develop and maintain relationships with agencies, educate others regarding the program and process, and help make the SBA process smooth and hassle-free.
The primary responsibility of the Underwriting Assistant is to set up new SBA accounts, process bonds, prepare various surety documents and maintain files in a current status at all times.
Job Responsibilities:
- Review and process all SBA paperwork for new and existing contract accounts
- Contact person for Agents, UW's and employees on SBA questions and procedures
- Set up new SBA submissions, bond and credit files - hard copy and in SIC systems
- Issue and invoice SBA bonds - enter in SBA & SIC systems
- Maintain bond files - hard copy and in SBA / SIC systems
- Process SBA fee checks
- Process daily mail, email, faxes and overnights for SBA files
- Follow up for all documentation pertaining to SBA files
- Maintain SBA credit, bond, and pending files - hard copy and in SIC systems
- Prepare indemnity agreements, forms and letters for SBA files
- Maintain suspense items
- Client relations with agents
- Provide direct SBA support to Underwriters
- Follow specific written & verbal procedures
- Close bond files
Qualifications:- 2+ years experience in banking, accounting, or other financial related environment with an emphasis on strong customer service or corporate support experience with an emphasis in supporting transactional workflow.
- Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required.
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Outlook; Internet Explorer
- Ability to interact positively, succinctly and professionally with all levels of internal and external clients and be comfortable building a rapport with differing personalities
- Able to complete tasks and assignments in a high volume work environment
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form
- Demonstrate the ability to produce error-free work and achieve high levels of accuracy. Strong attention to detail
- Ability to analyze a problem and develop a solution
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with customers and employees in a professional manner
