Job Description.
We are seeking a qualified Data Architect to work with IT professionals and business leaders to provide services in support of the development of future state data architecture and application modernization activities. The candidate will be in an expert role and work closely with Business, DBA, ETL, and Data Management teams providing solutions for complex Data-related initiatives. The candidate must have good technical and communication skills coupled with the ability to mentor effectively.
Responsibilities:
• Development of conceptual, logical and physical data models to support our existing and future Enterprise Data Architecture
• Participation in quality assurance of conceptual, logical and physical data models
• Ensure data decisions are consistent and best practices are adhered to
• Ensure data definitions, data dictionary and data lineage are kept up to date and accessible
• Data quality review and assessment
• Mentoring and education, along with technical guidance and direction on data modeling/design and metadata requirements to data designers in the application development teams utilizing Agile development processes
Technical / Business Skill requirements:
• Experience in designing data models for NoSQL environments such as Kafka, Cassandra, MarkLogic, and MongoDB
• Experience designing data model structures for reuse
• Experience designing XML Schema (XSD) and JSON Schema data models
• Experience applying Domain Driven Design (DDD) methods to design of conceptual data models at various levels of abstraction
• Experience in designing, logical and physical relational data models
• Knowledge of data naming standards and requirements for good data definitions
• Knowledge in using data quality and data governance tools (Information Analyzer & Quality Stage, Information Governance Catalog)
• Knowledge of Agile development and the Scaled Agile Framework and application to data design
• Knowledge of dimensional modeling, data warehousing and Big Data concepts
• Knowledge of current trends in data technologies: data services, data virtualization, data integration, Master Data Management, Big Data
• Knowledge in a variety of database, ETL, and application concepts, practices and procedures
• Experience with modeling tools such as PowerDesigner, Hackolade and Altova XML Spy
• Knowledge of the railroad and/or freight transportation industry

• Exceptional and clearly understandable English in support of both verbal and written communication requirements
• Experience in effective communication at different levels (i.e. junior team members, peers, management, senior management) of the organization
• Experience in providing technical data design guidance and direction
• Ability to facilitate small groups of application development and/or business users during data requirements and design sessions
• Strong leadership skills
• Strong problem solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to work with business and development teams to convey the value of enterprise data modeling, data quality and data governance practices.
