We have the unique and significant role to partner with NASA at Johnson Space Center (JSC), to be part of every human spaceflight program - the International Space Station (ISS), NASA's Orion spacecraft, which will carry astronauts into deep space, and Gateway, the orbiting platform providing the home for astronauts to work and travel back and forth to the moon's surface, and serving as the platform for deep space exploration. From critical systems on the ISS to enable astronauts to live and work in space; to performing advanced development for systems leading to deep space exploration; to being part of the foundation for Gateway.
We also partner with NASA at JSC, the only NASA center in the United States to curate all astromaterial samples returned from exploration missions, to perform curation services, orbital debris analysis, and basic research to further humankind's understanding of the origins of our solar system.
What you'll do all day
- Lead a small team of engineers in maintaining and updating spacecraft avionics lab hardware and software
Perform hands-on lab tasks, including:
- Validate C&DH subsystem requirements
- Validate spacecraft network interface requirements
- Configure and troubleshoot development hardware and software with limited documentation
- Identifying bugs, and work with the product vendor to reproduce resolve
- Organize and manage multiple priorities
- Communicate and demonstrate progress to management
- Perform other duties as required.

Minimum requirements for this position:

- BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and ten (10) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and eight (8) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. and four (4) years of direct engineering experience
- Experience leading and managing small teams, responsible for managing work scope, schedule and task assignment
- Knowledge and understanding of computer networking technology especially at Layer 2
- Experience architecting Computer Networks and using Network Management Tools
- Familiarity with Network Troubleshooting Techniques
- Experience with Scripting language such as Python
- Familiarity with IEEE802.3 (Ethernet) standards
- Familiarity with Linux systems, programming with C/C++
- COVID-19 vaccination required (medical/disability and religious accommodations will be considered).

Requisition Preferences:
- Avionic network systems design and development (electrical or software)
- Experience with Realtime embedded programing with C/C++ in a Linux environment
- Familiarity with VxWorks RTOS
- Experience with socket programing
- Familiarity with Git or other similar configuration management/version control systems
- Familiar with commercial products available in computer networking technology
- Familiarity with Time Triggered Ethernet (TTE) (SAE AS6802) and AFDX (ARINC 664p7)
- Familiarity with AFDX (ARINC 664p7)
- Experience with BASH scripting
- Hardware cabling standards
- Experience with spacecraft avionics and circuit design or analysis is a plus
- Previous experience in the application of computer network technology in space systems
