About the role

We are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to join the Operational Geotechnical Team at Bingham Canyon Mine. Reporting to the Operational Geotechnical Manager this role comprises the implementation of geotechnical designs together with detailed analysis of monitoring data to ensure safe and economic operation of the 1.3km deep open pit and large waste dumps.

Bingham Canyon Mine has one of the most extensive slope monitoring systems in the world. This is a challenging role that would suit a person who has a proven track record working in a surface mining environment in all climates. Working an 8 days on 6 days off roster, together with on-call duties, you will:
  • Process and analyse slope monitoring data including radar, prism, GPS, InSAR and sub-surface instrumentation.
  • Conduct daily pit slope and waste dump geotechnical inspections
  • Identify geotechnical hazards and develop hazard maps and bulletins
  • Conduct rockfall and some slope stability analysis work
  • Provide regular communications with Planning, Scheduling and Mine Execution Teams.
  • Produce and deliver technical presentations to internal teams and external review boards
  • Assist in identifying, defining and solving complex problems and risks that are, or have the potential to impact the overall productivity as part of a multi-disciplinary geoscience team

What you'll bring
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • A degree qualification in Geotechnical, Geological, Mining or Civil Engineering is essential2+ years relevant surface mining experience
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • Experience with geotechnical software especially, MineSite, Leapfrog, Dips, RocFall, IDS and Groundprobe suites. Plus, fully conversant with MS Office programs.
  • Ability to adapt to changing business conditions and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • A track record of generating practical and innovative solutions to multi-faceted technical challenges

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Masters degree
  • Database and computer programming skills.
