Within UAA, the Community College Research Initiatives (CCRI) team conducts research and development to generate actionable knowledge to advance equity in the field of higher education. Our work focuses on studying the experiences of marginalized student groups that use community colleges as their entry point to higher education, and the role that institutions play in equitable student educational and employment outcomes. Our goal is to leverage this research to effect change in postsecondary education at all levels.
CCRI has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist to join their team! This is a 50% FTE position funded by a grant from the Ascendium Education Group and is expected to run through 8/31/2024.
The Research Scientist will support the STEM Transfer Partnerships grant from the Ascendium Education Group focused on increasing low-income STEM students' transfer and completion of baccalaureate degrees via transfer partnerships. This grant will create a community of practice with 10 pairs of 2- and 4-year programs working together to remove barriers and to support low-income transfer student success. This individual will be a critical member of the CCRI team located at UW. As such, the position involves, conducting educational research including collecting, coding, and analyzing qualitative data; and writing, editing, and reporting research findings, and designing and facilitating convenings to support transfer partnership community of practice. The person will also support the PI in submitting and executing the administration of grants at UW.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in the facilitation of transfer partnership convening, also the organization and execution of qualitative data collection during convening and coaching sessions. (25%)
• Lead the qualitative data coding and analysis, data management, as well as writing up data summaries. (20%)
• Co-author briefs and reports that summarize major findings and author papers and dissemination activities, including presentations. (20%)
• Assist in the recruitment of institutional pairs to apply to the transfer partnership community of practice, including creating an informational webinar. Also, assist in the creation of a rubric to select the participating institutions from the application pool. (10%)
• Participate in monthly coaching sessions with transfer partnership teams. (10%)
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to other CCRI grant-funded work. (10%)
• Assist in grants administration, including annual reports, and future grant applications. (5%)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Master's degree in education, social sciences, or related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of research experience in the higher education field.
• Excellent written and oral communication and facilitation skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
• A doctoral degree focused on higher education.
• Knowledge and experience with community college transfer, transfer partnerships, STEM education, equity and diversity in higher education.
