Job Description

The Senior Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and executing against plans for various communication efforts across the Business PR team, assessing key communications opportunities for Nordstrom and supporting various business pillars through speaking opportunities, executive positioning and the local, national and international media landscape.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute communications plans and programs with measurable objectives to support corporate communications strategies and broader corporate narrative with little to no support
  • Build proactive storytelling program for business stories
  • Create storytelling framework for supply chain, digital and technology given growing importance to our business
  • Leverage unique storytelling techniques to drive business news cycles
  • Media management including:
    • Pitch (news, proactive evergreen storytelling)
    • Respond to and track press inquiries
    • Monitor media/track coverage for company/industry news and route accordingly
    • Monitor for staffing and contact changes at outlets
    • Keep pulse on evolving media trends
    • Identify new reporters and/or outlets for future relationship building
    • Act as a company spokesperson as needed
  • Provide media training for spokespeople as needed


Executive Positioning
  • Own executive positioning strategy for JWN ensuring that conference opportunities help further company's narrative and ladder back to key priorities. Also, serve as subject matter expert in this space keeping a pulse on new relevant opps.
  • Manage executive positioning opportunity process from start to finish including:
    • Help identify conferences that are strategic for the business and continue to evaluate/research new opps
    • Build speaker proposals for submission to conferences; manage briefing docs, logistics and other items for speaking opps
    • Work with executives and other Nordstrom speakers as appropriate to develop content and build presentations
    • Conduct conference speaker training for Nordstrom employees as needed
    • Amplify conference participation and content to internal and external audiences as appropriate
  • Provide counsel to non-executive level employees speaking on behalf of Nordstrom


Leadership
  • Build meaningful relationships with ET and ELG members and provide counsel
  • Proactively develop and refine team processes
  • Help manage PR agency relationships and help support junior team members
  • Be a problem solver by providing a point of view on all media, business and executive positioning opportunities


Basic Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in PR, public affairs or related field
