To strengthen our application team, we are currently looking for an Application Scientist specializing in materials research, thin-film (XRR, GID), and structural xrd analysis (HRXRD) techniques to join our X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and 3D X-Ray Microscopy (XRM) team based at our Madison, WI office.

Responsibilities:
As part of the North America X-Ray diffraction applications team, you will primarily lead technical applications activities for all North America on our XRD products, reporting directly to the NA Product Manager - XRD/XRM. Cross training on our XRM products may also be part of this position. The position is responsible for supporting the growth of the XRD and XRM product lines through both market growth and gaining market share by superior sample measurement, product demonstration, marketing, customer trainings and out strategizing the competition.

Essential Functions:

Functions performed with an expertise or specialty in materials research, thin-film, and/or high-resolution XRD (HRXRD):

Measure customer samples and produce quality reports to further sales opportunity.

Conduct instrument demonstrations in Madison, WI application lab, at customer sites, and virtually to help close sales opportunities.

Attend tradeshows, exhibitions, conferences, and workshops to promote Bruker XRD and XRM products and generate new leads.

Provide post-sales application training at customer site, in-house, or remotely. Assist in developing customer training programs, course materials, and course agenda.

Help qualify opportunities with sales team by understanding customer applications and requirements and conveying best Bruker solution or product configuration.

Participation in the development of new products, applications, and services

Travel with sales colleagues to customer sites to answer questions and give high level technical presentations on Bruker's products and solutions.

Help provide technical responses to tenders and bids.

Manage and maintain XRD application instrumentation and demonstration laboratories in Madison, WI.

Cross train on 3D XRM instrumentation, to become multifunctional and provide cover for other team members.

Establish and manage relationships with cross functional departments within Bruker AXS such as marketing, service, product management, and marcom, both in NA and internationally, to enable the sales applications team, the sales organization and Bruker to meet its high-level goals and objectives.

Provide technical support to Field Service Reps by assisting with problems during new product installation, repair, etc., by interfacing with German factory personnel.

Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Current valid driver license.

Ability and willingness to travel within the U.S. and Canada to customer sites and scientific meetings

Three years hands-on experience with X-Ray diffraction (XRD) products and methods. Bruker AXS products preferred. Experience and strong theoretical background with area detector systems and four circle diffractometers. Mathematical and theoretical knowledge in High Resolution XRD, stress, texture and SAXS applications.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate should have interest, knowledge, and some background in stylus and optical instrumentation. They should have excellent theoretical grasp of fundamentals and be able to explain the principles of how these instruments work clearly and concisely to non-experts in the field. Practical knowledge and modelling of data gathered from such instrumentation is beneficial.

Masters or PhD degree in Physics, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or related field.

At least 3 years of experience with X-ray diffraction is required. Further, experience in diffraction and scattering applications such as micro-diffraction, texture, stress, thin-film, SAXS, and particularly with 2D detectors is expected.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Typical office and lab environments.

Travel requirements up to 1/3 of the work time. Main travel will be in the U.S. and Canada but may also require travel to Bruker AXS factory in Germany.

Must be able to pushcart and/or lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally to move and unpack instrumentation.

Able to work in Government sites, cleanroom, production floor & laboratory environments.
